The job market for corporate social responsibility (CSR) is growing as more and more consumers are becoming aware about issues concerning globalization, climate change, sustainability, human rights and capitalism. The advent of the Internet and social media has facilitated the access to information, and nowadays it is nearly impossible for companies to operate in complete secrecy.
Large brand name companies like Starbucks, Walmart, Target, Nike, Apple and Microsoft, are all heavily involved in CSR and understand the value it provides to not just the environment and the people they serve, but to business as well. These companies understand that enacting the proper self-regulations will not only provide a positive image for the company, but also be immensely beneficial to business in the long-run. Below is a sample cover letter for a job in CSR.

Dear Hiring Manager,
I am writing you to express my interest in working as a corporate social responsibility associate with Citi. I am currently pursuing an MBA degree at Columbia Business School (CBS). I believe my academic background and work experience make me a qualified candidate for your organization.
As an education consultant to a Argentinean charter school, I was tasked to handle the school’s budget as well as develop an economics and mathematics program. During my employment at the school, the average attendance hovered in the mid 90th percentile and proficiency exam scores in math, science and English surpassed all other schools in the district. Consulting allowed me to manage several challenging tasks under pressure and tight deadline and required me to work with key actors in every department of the school in order to meet deadline-orientated deliverables.
As a lecturer at the University of Havana, Cuba, I taught English and Creative Writing. A lot of my time was also dedicated to editing papers, providing feedback and helping students to improve their skills in written and verbal communication. My experience as a teacher has been transformative and inspired me to further my education at CBS so that I could make a bigger impact in the world, beyond the confines of a classroom.
At CBS, I have cultivated insights on the managerial and leadership skills needed to operate in any public or private arena by developing solid quantitative and analytical skills. I am particularly interested in community development in urban cities and the different approaches needed to tackle poverty. In order to solve problems in our community, organizations such as Citi need to utilize the efficiency that market-based approaches bring to create sustainable local business. In this regard, a summer internship for Citi would broaden my knowledge on how to overcome these specific challenges in order to bring wealth to a low-income community. I ask for the opportunity to translate my work experience and skills, as well as what I have learned at CBS, into solutions for your organization.
I would appreciate an opportunity to discuss the summer internship in further detail. Please feel free to contact me at 123-456-7891 or at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you for your attention and consideration. I look forward to speaking with you.
